May 5, 2020The choice of a marriage partner is the second most important decision you must make in your life, of course the first being accepting Christ as the Lord of your life. How important this is, is reflected in how God responded to this subject with regards to the first man, Adam. When God was through creating man, he began to search for a suitable helpmate for him. God’s search yielded no results with the initially created beings all around making him resort to creating a wife,a helpmate for him.
We can learn from that story that no other but God himself desires that a diligent and proper search be made before a person ‘becomes one’ with another. God Almighty actually had to search, in other words for a man to find a good partner, he must search and search rightly. Today the number of divorces and broken marriages in our world has hit the highest of figures. Young people are in fact questioning if it is worth it after all. The problems are even not helped by the fact that there is a back door of divorce left open for people to walk away when they are fed up with goings on in their marriages.
But believe this, this is not God’s plan for marriage. God’s plan is for a man and a women to cleave to each other and enjoy the blessings of this holy conjugation. Marriage is Honourable according to the word of God and was designed to be enjoyed. A ‘searching’ young person hence has his expectations for a blissful union and this expectation ought not to be cut short.
In your search however, one thing is needful- Guidance, Divine Guidance. In the book of Proverbs, Gods word enjoins us to ‘lean not on our understanding’. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. (Proverbs3:5-7 KJV). This is the Formular that will work. As we meet people and interact with them and begin to weigh up the prospects, the word says Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Not with some, not in certain places, he says trust him with all your heart and in all you do. Acknowledge him in all you do, he will direct your path.
Right now you are looking at the prospects of settling down with either this person or the other, God says if you trust me and acknowledge me in this, I will direct you. I will lead you to the right one with whom bliss is indispensable. We must accept the fact that we cannot see beyond our noses, God knows people in a way we never would. Again God knows how a person will be in the next 20 years.
People make mistakes when they don’t take time to seek Gods face on issues regarding marriage with the sincerity and dedication it deserves. The easiest way to avoid trouble in your marriage is to make the right choice of the person and the right way to avoid making a wrong choice is by letting God guide you.
